The VXA 710 is a tape that is made from PET based substrate that is of 6.4 micrometer thickness. It is a backup tape that is compatible with all the 1 and 2 drives. On the other hand this tape is also made from a PEN based substance that is of 4.7 micrometer thickness. The 2 tape is completely compatible with only the 2 tape and with the future generation drives and autoloaders. It is the newest version of the media that is designed for use with only the desired tape and also the future generation drives and autoloaders. The backup tape uses AME media. It provides significantly longer tape life than the other tape technologies. It utilizes the packet technology and the other back up tapes uses the track based technology.
The VXA 220 does not allow back hitching. It occurs when the data rates between the drive and the host computer system get out of sync. At this time computers send data in shorter bursts and also tracks the tape drives and allows the transfer of data to and from the tape that is fixed tape speeds. When the back hitching occurs the drive stops transferring data, rewinds and then moves forward to re sync.
